Frisky Friday 11/2: Mexican Hot Chocolate

With the winds, courtesy of Hurricane Sandy, picking up this past week the weather has taken a turn for the chillier side.  Thankfully, we have this weeks Frisky Friday drink recipe to keep us nice and toasty–Mexican Hot Chocolate.  Although there are many recipes for this popular drink, we like the one we found on Imbibe Magazine‘s website.

You will need:

A saucepan
A whisk
1/2 oz Mexican Spice

  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

8 oz milk
1 1/2 oz bittersweet chocolate, grated
1 1/2 oz Kahlua
Whipped Cream

Start by simmering milk in the saucepan until heated through.  Do not let the milk boil.  Now whisk in the chocolate and spice mix and simmer until completely melted.  Then remove from the heat and stir in the Kahlua.  Finally, pour in to a mug and garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chili powder.

Is it too soon to drink this while listening to Christmas music?

Thanks again to Imbibe Magazine for posting this recipe!

Happy Friday!
